2007 Swimmer of the Year Award

Steve G
Elisabeth receives the
award from Bob

2007 has seen many of the clubs swimmers producing great performances in the pool and in open water. So much so that drawing up a short list of candidates proved difficult enough. After much deliberation the short list contained three outstanding candidates.

The two runners up this year are

Suzanne Linton
Suzanne had an outstanding year in the pool collecting 3 British records along the way. The first record, 50m Freestyle (long course) came early in year at Ponds Forge. Suzanne followed that up with and clean sweep of golds at the Midlands. Not content with her efforts thus far Suzanne then went on to claim 2 gold and two silver medals at the National Long Course event in June at Manchester. To finish off the year Suzanne then broke two more British records in the 100 and 50 Free at the National Short Course Championships at Pond Forge, Sheffield in October.

Trevor Clark
As well as successfully organising the all conquering Warwickshire County again this year, Trevor still found time to win the odd championship here and there.

With his customary huge haul of medals at the Midlands Trevor marched off to the National Long Course Champs were he collected Silvers on the 50 and 100 Fly. Not content with these results he returned to national competition at the Sheffield where he picked up two gold medals for the 50 and 100 Fly. To top off the weekend he also bagged three silvers and some astonishing times for his troubles.

The Winner
Grabbing a clutch of national titles and breaking a few British records along the way may earn you the Swimmer of the Year award at some clubs, but not KMSC. Oh no, if you want to lift the cup in 2007 at Kenilworth Masters you have got to do better than that, and that is exactly what our winner this year did.

Elisabeth Green - European Champion
European Champion, now that has go a nice sound to it. One that us mere mortals can only dream of hearing with out name attached to it.

Elisabeth took a trip to Kranj in Slovenia this summer to compete in the European Masters Championships where she produced a string of excellent performances culminating in her taking the Gold Medal and the title of European Champion at 400 freestyle clocking a time of 6:36.24 on the third day of competition.

Not content with picking up a title in the 400, Elisabeth also had a crack at the 200 and 800 freestyle events where she picked up a couple silver medals.

For this outstanding performance we are proud to announce that Elisabeth is our Swimmer of the Year 2007. All that remains to say is congratulations from all the members of the club.
