T30 - 30 minute timed swim 2009

Sandy McGilvery

More success in the 2009 T30

We have now received the results for this years and Kenilworth Masters swimmers have been successful once again.

On an individual basis brothers Matt and James Wardle both won their respective age groups. Not to be out done and to fly the flag for the ladies, Mel McWhirter received a Gold for her efforts as well. Other entries from the club saw Chris (Zim) Ryall coming second in his age group. A remarkable achievement considering he completed his swim in tropical water temperatures at the pool. Claire Wilkinson and Heather Rees came forth in their respective age groups in their first year in taking part in the competition. Other placings were 5th for Karen Stacey, 7th for Rob Robson and 14th for Jacqueline Hobson.
.
Kenilworth also entered four teams in the competition which resulted in two gold and two silver medals. The first placed teams were the Male 120 - 159 years and the Female 159 - 199 years. The two second placed teams were the Mixed 120 - 159 years and the mixed 159 - 200 years.

Well done to all who took part and entered the competition as well as those who just came down to swim it for the fun of it. We will be running the event again next year so why don't you come on down an have a go.

Great performances and bad maths

Once again a group of hardy souls agreed to put themselves through the 30 minutes of controlled pain that goes by the name of T30. After last years experience many swimmers decided to repeat the experience, thus proving how quickly we forget.

Week one saw Zim, Mel and Karen make their attempts in the tropical water temperatures of 31.5 C at the boys school, with only two out of the three of them managing to complete their swim. After 30 minutes Zim and Karen left the pool a rather different shade than when they entered and both in a desperate need of some form of liquid refreshment.

Week Two, the big one, saw the rest of the would-be swimmers arrive at the boys school armed with swim kit and stop watches, to find the pool had cooled to a more acceptable level. We saw some great performances in the pool from many swimmers. However the aquatic skills on display were not replicated by the some of the time keepers addition at the end of the swim (mainly me) with several swimmers leaving the pool believing they had swam further than they actually had. ooops

The scores on the door are as follows:
James Wardle (23) 2495m
Matt Wardle (30) 2440m
Chris Ryall (Zim) (43) 2335m
Matt Thomas (25) 2250m
