Come and have ago if you think your.... (actually its better if you don't think at all)
Its that time of year again when the spectre of the T30 rears it ugly head. This is the curtain raising event in the KMSC calendar and one that shouldn't be missed by those that favour duration over the sprint.
For those of you who may not be acquainted the joys of the T30 here is a brief description of what to expect.
10 mins prior to swim..
Nervous chatter floats around the trenches before the signal to go over the top.
1 min prior to swim...
Hush descends as the reality of what is to come, starts to sink in.
Start to 5 mins...
Flying in the face of all perceived wisdom everyone goes off way to quickly. After the first 6 to 8 lengths are completed the realization that you are only a tenth of the way through, starts to sink in.
5 to 10 min's..
Pain...
10 to 15 mins...
Regret...
15 to 20 mins...
A brief window when you think you might have got into a sustainable rhythm.
20 - 25 mins...
Pain and Regret...
25 - 30 mins...
Five minute warning whistle sounds. The finish is in sight. Swim for what feels like and eternity before looking at the clock to ascertain how long is left to swim. 4.5 minutes of despair left to endure. Pain... Pain ... Pain...
Finish...
Those that have lost the ability to process audible signals plough on, those that can still respond, come to a grinding halt waiting for David Hasslehoff to drag them out of the water.
35+ mins...
After regaining the ability to control mind and body simultaneously and having a good laugh at your splits you start to wonder what all the fuss was about and start to plan next years assault.
Now if that doesn't make you want to have go, nothing will. There are some slots left so please let me know if you wish to come along and have go.
